Van Morrison, a man whose legendary blend of mystic poetry and soulful music has inspired and uplifted audiences throughout an extraordinary career, delivered a memorable performance at this year's Aspects Festival.
‘Lit Up Inside’, a selected lyrics publication (Faber and Faber, 2014) containing about one-third of the songs that Van has written over his 50 years career, was the catalyst for this sell-out event.
This unique night brought out not only the best of Van Morrison’s music, but also an insight into the craftsmanship of one of the world’s outstanding songwriters.
Van was joined in conversation by bestselling crime writer Ian Rankin. Additionally, London-based writer and poet, Scarlett Sabet, and Pulitzer Prize winner, Paul Muldoon, performed readings of Van's lyrics in their own poetic voices. Dr Eamonn Hughes, the editor of Lit Up Inside conducted the night's performance, which made for an evening of literary delight.
Golden Globe winning actress Kim Cattrall delivered a spellbinding performance through her intimate readings of 'Someone Like You' and 'Meaning of Loneliness' whilst Van, sitting close by, accompanied on guitar.
The night concluded with Van and his band playing a mix of his classic tracks and songs from his eagerly awaited 36th studio album ‘Keep Me Singing’
